As your baby grows, so does their need for movement & entertainment. But it can be difficult to know how to entertain your baby to ensure you’re giving them just the right amount of stimulation, without them becoming wired.

In this in-depth baby yoga course, you’ll learn how to hold, move and exercise your baby in a safe and exciting way that you can incorporate into your daily routine. Perfect for any baby 8 weeks and older.

Not only is this course lots of fun for both you and baby, but you are helping your baby's cognitive development, assisting their expanding physical movement needs, seeing to their emotional needs, spending quality time bonding and also working on your own physical & emotional needs. Pretty awesome!

We recommend going through this course over 5 weeks although you can go faster.

Clara & Hugo’s story

First time mum Clara from France was faced with having her baby boy Hugo alone in London during the 2020 lockdowns. She was away from her family and friends & her partner was a keyworker so away from home for long periods each day.

She didn’t have a community around her and the baby classes she had thought she would be able to attend were suddenly closed during lockdown.

Some days were really tough with her little man often crying for long periods throughout the day. Clara didn’t know what to do to support him nor entertain him.

They embarked on the online Baby Yoga course & it quickly became their favourite activity to do together. During Baby Yoga Hugo was his happiest and so they did it often from home as a way to settle his fussing & also for something fun to do together during what was a difficult time. She said ‘We have loved your online Baby Yoga course, it is the happiest time in our day”

  • 30-40 minutes after a feed and up to 60 minutes after a feed for refluxy or sicky babies. We wouldn’t want to do yoga after a big meal either!

  • Yes! Massage & yoga are brilliant for your baby’s digestion.

  • You will need to wait 24-48 hours after your baby has had their vaccinations to give them a massage or do yoga. It is unsafe to do so before this time. Also note, the area on their body they were injected can be sore for up to 12 days after so go around that space.

  • This is suitable over 8 weeks of age once they have had their hips checked by a medical professional.

You can practise for as long as your baby is happy to. That could be years!

  • Every day! Wouldn’t you love a daily pampering session? This course is brilliant for yours and baby’s bond, getting to know each other, building trust and communication as well as all of the health benefits to baby such as digestion, sleep, development and general wellbeing.

Even just 5 minutes a day can make a huge different. Why not try and incorporate it into your daily routine.

The course is designed for you to watch one video a week. Practise the same video as many times as you can throughout the week before moving on to the next level.

  • This usually means baby has another need that needs meeting. That could be that they are hungry, tired, ready to move on.

Crying is just your baby’s way of communicating with you and usually doesn’t mean that they don’t like massage or you are doing it wrong.

Try and set the scene before you begin, have everything you need ready, calm yourself with some nice deep breaths and begin with some cuddles with baby. Talk to them and let them know what is happening. Give baby lots of smiles and reassurance and move at a pace that suits them.

When you ask for permission be sure to look for babies physical and verbal cues. Do they look calm and relaxed? Are they tired and yawning? How is the pressure?

  • There is no right time for everyone. It is great as a daytime activity. Be mindful that it is quite stimulating so probably best to do earlier in the day rather than a bedtime activity. Test out a few different times of day and choose the one that suits your families needs best.

  • There are some health conditions that mean giving baby a massage is not suitable. You can read about them in our Contraindications list.

  • We use baby massage in this course as a warm up for the babies, to get them used to our touch & ready for some big stretches & exercises.

If you have done baby massage before with oil and you would like to do it this way for this course you are welcome to. However I recommend you do a massage first then put baby’s clothes on so 1) they do not get cold during yoga and 2) so that they are not slippery in your hands when we do some of our more complex moves like swings and dips.

  • The course is filmed using multiple angles so you can see front view (as you would in a face to face class), birds eye & side view.

Full descriptions are shared of how to do the move & its benefits. Plus some of the more complex moves have on screen animations to help you.

If you have any questions or you aren’t sure, feel free to send Casey an email at casey@sensoryland.com and she’ll be happy to help.

  • This is baby dependant & it can change between each massage/yoga session.

For massage as a general rule of thumb we say not too lightly that it is ticklish & not too firmly it is uncomfortable. Around the same pressure you would use to stroke a cat or a dog.

For yoga, only go a deep into a stretch as baby can go, never push or force anything. Sometimes you may be able to stretch your baby further and they resist, that’s ok, in fact it is fantastic, they are learning how to control their body - this is their proprioceptive sense. If this happens, only go as far as baby is happy to go. Maybe you could even congratulate them on learning how to use & control that body part.

Keep checking in with your baby throughout the class, verbally asking them if it feels good & watch their cues. This could be physical cues such as smiling at you, looking relaxed with big belly breathing and relaxed arms, squirming, looking away or uncomfortable.

Verbal cues could be baby babbling & cooing or crying.

You know your baby best, try a medium pressure and see how they respond. Remember to reassure baby with smiles, eye contact & your words throughout
